I think its probably more related to a combination of roster makeup (ratings/attributes of the players), play selection, and luck (sim/rolls), especially for the offense in both 4.4 & 4.5. You can have a very good, 90+ rated QB, but he wont make much of a difference if he does not have a receiving group that can get open quickly and RBs that are fast and are good receivers along with an OL that protects well. QBs that have to hold the ball longer in the decision making process will get hurried/sacked and will also affect the pass if they get it off under duress. Ive noticed that there are more interceptions from that situation in 4.4. The play selection, player matchups. and the sim/rolls, are what really determine outcome, in any of the game versions. When it comes to the players ability, its not all "cut and dried", there are exceptions, including players with average or below average ratings and atts that play at a much higher level, and vice versa - high raters that do not perform at what you would expect.
