Speaking of lopsided trades, the most infamous goes to a trade processed on October 12 of 1989, when Herschel Walker, a Heisman winner thought to be in his prime with the Cowboys, was dealt off to the Minnesota Vikings for 5 players, 9 picks including three firsts and three seconds.
Vikings received a player that ran for less than 2400 yards during his time with the team, not what you expect from three firsts and three seconds, Minnesota also intook Dallas' two third round picks along with a tenth round pick.
San Diego played a minor role in this transaction as they recieved RB Darrin Nelson and gave away a fifth to the Vikings.
Over the next three years, the Cowboys would use those picks to trade up and select hall of famers Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin while also drafting quality players in Russell Maryland and Darrell Woodson just to name a few.
They made three super bowls from in a span of four years and won them all in 1992, 1993, and 1995. Dallas was just 1-15 in 1990, and it shows how a megatrade can change the course of a team for a decade.
Vikings have made zero super bowls since and did not make the playoffs in the two full years (that's right!!! 2.5!) with Herschel Walker on the roster.
